Last week Hampton Roads Ventures launched Camp RISE, a two-week summer dance camp for approximately 50 local low-income middle school students. Coordinated by the Crispus Attucks Cultural Center in cooperation with the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, this innovative, youth development program will feature teaching artist for the Foundation Natasha DeVaughn-Rigby and local instructors. Following the camp, 25 participants will be chosen for the Dance Residency Program to continue their performance training throughout the year. The most accomplished dancer will win a weekend trip to New York to attend an Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performance and the opportunity to meet members of the legendary dance troupe.
