CORRECTION: Last week, we incorrectly identified the art that accompanied Betsy DiJulio’s article, "From Sacred Hearts to Seeds of Snow." Agustin Rojas’ Embrace (above) shows at ArtGallery in a group exhibition of the same name through March 29.

CALL TO ARTISTS: The second annual Town Center Art & Wine Festival will be held on Sat., May 31 from 2 to 7 p.m. Taking place at the Town Center of Virginia Beach, the event will showcase over 30 of the area’s best up-and-coming artists. The festival will also feature wine tasting, live entertainment, food vendors, and a spring fashion show. To participate in the show, artists should contact David Spore at david@neptunefestival.com or 498-0215 to request an artist application.

AND THE WINNERS ARE: It was such an honor and privilege to help jury the Renewal exhibition at The Warehouse (1229 W. Olney, www.myspace.com/thewarehousenorfolk) last weekend. With over 105 works by around 55 artists, my fellow jurors, Ragan Cole-Cunningham and Captain Carl, and I had plenty to deliberate. But judging on adherence to theme and skill of execution, we were able to come to unanimous agreement. First place went to Davmo’s mixed-media on canvas, The Lotus Dream; second, Shaun Whiteside’s luminous acrylic/latex Reprise; third, Richard Nickel’s earthenware, We are Vegetables!(above). A special CAC Award was also given to Tony Bijeaux’s photograph, Reflection I. All the works will be on view through Fri., April 18, on which night there will be a closing night panel discussion, featuring yours truly and selected artists from the show. I can’t say enough how utterly inspiring it is to see so much exciting work being made by artists right here at home. Congratulations to each and every one of the artists who participated!

SHAKING THINGS UP: In its 30th Anniversary season this year, the Virginia Shakespeare Festival will also celebrate the 10th Anniversary of its Young Shakespeare Camps for student actors ages 9 to 17. From July 14 to Aug. 1, these young thespians will be immersed in true Shakespearean stage training, which culminates in a performance of an abbreviated version of As You Like It at the end of their week with VSF’s resident company and Camp Directors Billy Finn and Laura Rikard. Each week is limited to 22 campers and the camps have sold out all of the past five years. Tuition is $170 for the week. For info, call 221-2683 or visit www.wm.edu/vsf and click on the link for Young Shakespeare Camps.
